"Interior - possibility and mystery"

This exhibition at Pickford’s House Museum, Derby continues the artist’s interest in ideas of reality and the imagination through his use of imagery of architectural spaces.

The models in the vitrines in the Gallery are of real buildings from around the world. They are made by referring only to photographs as the artist has never been to or seen the actual rooms or buildings. Each model is an interpretation of the real.

The models have resonances of the period rooms in the Pickfords House Museum and the Museum’s display of toy theatres. In all of these there is a sense of mystery and wonder, inviting the viewer to imagine another reality.

Eight photographic images, one for each of the model rooms are placed in different rooms of the house. The images seem out of context as they are modern but they do comment on our romantic view of history, and that the house was built at a time when the world was about to change.
