Working with Artist Gillian Brent this commission was to produce
a series of artworks for this new build secondary school built by Kier Build
for Sheffield Education authority. The school opened in January 2007.
One of six light boxes
The Westfield School commission was to create a series of artworks that
would enhance the school environment, especially the sports facilities which
are also for community use. The works were a series of photographic light
boxes, a large acrylic wall piece, vinyl artworks and manifestations and
stainless steel wall plaques.
Manifestations on glass doors
The imagery was developed through working with students in the school around the theme of movement and sport. Installation of the work involved working closely with contractors on site through the site manager. Kier Build are particularly strict on site safety and required a health and safety qualification to gain a PASMA (scaffold tower) certificate and for working at height as well as producing risk assessments and method statements.
